Crimson flowers

In the last couple of days, the flowers on the broad beans have come out and they are definitely crimson (not white as I had thought they looked earlier in the week). Here is a photo of them:

And here is a photo of the yellow flowers on the purple sprouting broccoli:

The broccoli will unfortunately need to come out soon – I need the space for sweetcorn, which needs to go in before it is too late. On the other hand, at least there should be a crop of beans in a short while. I wonder how long?

About Helen

I have always been interesting in living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle and used to do what I could. Now, I have come to realise that we have reached such a point in terms of environmental degradation that it is more important - perhaps - to focus on building resilience. I therefore do as much as I can to reuse, grow my own and encourage a supportive community, for example. I also keep reading and learning all the time.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Broad Beans. I love the crimson flowers on yours… and I’m sure the bees will too!
