Fuchsia first

Meet the first flowers I have purposely set out to buy for our garden: Fuchsia (Beacon).

My dad used to have fuchsia and I have always loved them. So they were an absolute must…. Especially when the garden centre I have just been to was selling them off for £1 per pot. And I had the perfect spot for the new plant at the back of the garden by the path that joins mine and my beighbour’s gardens.

I am so excited about seeing how my fuchsia develops (How long will it take to get established? Will it produce any flowers this year?). However, to distract me from my impatience, I also bought quite a few other things from the garden centre which I now need to use in one way or another.

Finally, I have found some six foot (180 cm) canes for the runner beans and there are several bags of top soil and farmyard manure to condition the seriously depleted soil, for example.

So, best get on with it all!

About Helen

I have always been interesting in living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle and used to do what I could. Now, I have come to realise that we have reached such a point in terms of environmental degradation that it is more important - perhaps - to focus on building resilience. I therefore do as much as I can to reuse, grow my own and encourage a supportive community, for example. I also keep reading and learning all the time.
