Broad beans flower again

Went out to pick some broad beans for my tea just now and was surprised to see that new flowers have appeared on one of the plants.

New flowers on broad beans

As I had thought the broad beans were coming to an end,  I was planning to remove the tops and just leave the roots (to fertilise the soil with nitrogen), then move the compost heap to this patch in the garden. The latter does need turning and it would be good to have the ground where the heap currently is, but I think I will have to hold off for a while.

Still, I am not averse to more broad beans 🙂

About Helen

I have always been interesting in living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle and used to do what I could. Now, I have come to realise that we have reached such a point in terms of environmental degradation that it is more important - perhaps - to focus on building resilience. I therefore do as much as I can to reuse, grow my own and encourage a supportive community, for example. I also keep reading and learning all the time.
