No, I won’t keep you guessing today. This is a cucumber – and a fertilised one at that.
After spying the first baby cucumber, I did an internet search and discovered a page which said that indoors cucumbers shouldn’t be fertilised as this makes them bitter. So, erring on the side of caution, I decided to follow this advice.
Thing is, this poor little cuc now feels so unloved it is dying. I therefore realised that in future I would be in there with my paintbrush to give fertilisation a better chance. As with the aubergine, even one fruit would be excellent at this moment in my gardening life… but I can see another baby with a flower about to open, so maybe I can get hopeful for more?

Holding thumbs! My first aubergine got eaten by the monkeys! At least you won’t have that problem!
No, that’s for sure!
Hope you still manage to get some aubergines 🙂
