Just like Christmas!

Yesterday evening, I was feeling a bit despondent about the lack of things to blog about in the garden. If only it were lighter, warmer, I could get out more and at least see what was going on….

I has also wondered when the garlic might appear. So, I was both surprised and overjoyed when I stepped out just now and witnessed the first signs of sprouting in the garlic bed.

I wish the grazing rye was also doing something but so far there is no joy on that front. Never mind, at least one cauliflower is progressing very nicely.

Now, I’m intrigued to see if the broad beans I sowed in the Jerusalem artichoke growbag sprout before the spring. I’ve never sown them before the spring before so have no idea what to expect but perhaps that is a surprise for another day!

About Helen

I have always been interesting in living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle and used to do what I could. Now, I have come to realise that we have reached such a point in terms of environmental degradation that it is more important - perhaps - to focus on building resilience. I therefore do as much as I can to reuse, grow my own and encourage a supportive community, for example. I also keep reading and learning all the time.

  1. I am so surprised how well your fall and winter vegetables are doing. I think it great to be able to have some fresh vege at this time of year. We eat a lot of frozen, dried, or pickled vegetables this time of year. It makes me wonder how long we can keep some vegetables going here.

  2. How exciting is it when the garlic pops up? I just love it. Won’t be long now and I’ll be hauling ours out of the ground!

I love to read about your own experiences and any other feedback you have, so look forward to your comments below.
