The Holly

Well, if I thought it was Christmas yesterday, I must surely think so again today……. I had noticed some holly growing under the hawthorn bush (ex-hawthorn bush!!) but didn’t know how much until the latter was no more. In any case, I had never seen any flowers on it, so assumed that there simply would be none.

Nevertheless, I did a bit of research into holly and its flowers. It turns out that it is either male or female – and perhaps stating the obvious, you need both to get berries. So, as I don’t know the gender of my bush, it looks like I will have to do a bit of research and go out and buy an other-gendered companion.

Anyway, here is a shot of the first of what I hope will be many flowers.

About Helen

I have always been interesting in living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle and used to do what I could. Now, I have come to realise that we have reached such a point in terms of environmental degradation that it is more important - perhaps - to focus on building resilience. I therefore do as much as I can to reuse, grow my own and encourage a supportive community, for example. I also keep reading and learning all the time.
