After last night’s work, clearing ground to enable me to do some shifting around in the garden, I kept the momentum up this afternoon by doing the next phase of landscaping. Namely, preparing the ground for the dogwood Cornus kesselringii I bought over the summer.
I’d originally thought of putting it somewhere else but, upon reflection, I felt the dogwood would be less trouble close the backdoor, unlike the yew, which needs to be squeezed into the garden somehow.
Anyway, whilst I was digging out the sand, which had been under the patio stones by the fence (now under the shed), I came across the ubiquitous builders rubble and, ahem, polystyrene. In their place are now branches from the apple tree, bokashi solids, feathers from an old duvet and straw, topped off by a good layer of soil. (I hope this will keep the rats from investigating, nay making a meal of my hard work.)
The soil came from a section where the pond is going to go, so in effect I killed two birds with one stone. There will still be a lot of excavating to do but I’m pleased that the soil I took up from where the pond will be is hopefully going to make some lovely beds elsewhere.
As for the sand, that is now in a bag waiting to line the pond base, once the excavations are complete. There are still many stones to be removed from it but, all being well, I won’t have to purchase much sand to complement my own.
Lots of good moving stuff around there 🙂
Indeed! Thanks, Jackie 😊
One stone at a time…It’s gonna be great! 🙂
Thank you, Koko! I can’t wait to get started 😊
Isn’t it great growing the soil!
I love it 😊
Me too! 🙂
Yuk! I can’t imagine dealing with rats in my gardens…deer and rabbits and squirrels and raccoons are bad enough, but rats….I shiver just thinking about it!
At least rats don’t eat living plants 😊
