Charmed on Tuesday

Do you generally feel constrained? The operative words is ‘generally’, ie not to do with Covid restrictions.

Yesterday morning was a moment in time when I felt the opposite. It was beautifully sunny and that blend between warm and cool which makes walking a particular pleasure.

I would have liked to have taken a walk along the bridle path which passes the rhubarb fields, as I had fancied the feeling of countryside around me. Unfortunately, I also wanted a coffee and the village café doesn’t open till 8:30, which would have meant rushing back for the first lesson, or webinar as the online version has been named.

A walk in the opposite direction was nonetheless charming. As I passed the municipal park gates, the view across former royal (Middle Ages royal) hunting ground caused me to pause.

I would have taken a walk through the park, had there been more time.

Directly across the road, a keen gardener had planted up the verge in front of their house. A creative way to use the space!

Back home later in the day, I saw my first insect making use of the pond. A bee drank and then flew on her way. All done with such grace.

The garden was actually quite a-buzz with both bumble and honey bees in the evening. Directly in front of the kitchen window the bay and my daughter’s apple tree are in flower, both of which must be quite a draw at present.

I wonder if they ever feel constrained by daily life?

About Helen

I have always been interesting in living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle and used to do what I could. Now, I have come to realise that we have reached such a point in terms of environmental degradation that it is more important - perhaps - to focus on building resilience. I therefore do as much as I can to reuse, grow my own and encourage a supportive community, for example. I also keep reading and learning all the time.

  1. We had a day like that, too. So, did you get your coffee?

I don’t think bees feel constrained but then I don’t know how to ask them. Lovely pictures.

  3. Going Batty in Wales says:

Glad you had such a lovely day!

  4. Now we can travel a bit further afield (like to the beach) I don’t feel constrained much at all. I think working freelance is helpful in giving a sense of freedom as it means that there aren’t set hours for work, so I can go out when the sun is shining whatever the time of day (unless there is a deadline, of course).

Great to see the bees returing. Loved the view too.
