Round the garden in 80 days #43

In the summer, there was a good crop of red currants. I had an idea that these would make an adequate substitute for cranberry sauce at Christmastime, so a few days ago they came out of the freezer and became red currant jelly.

Have you ever made a jelly conserve? If so, how do you find the process? Generally, I miss the set point and end up with toffee which is then difficult to get out of the jar. However, I stopped myself from boiling for too long this time and the result was a jelly we could spoon out of the jar.

On the other hand, my first attempt at visible mending over this festive period

didn’t go quite so well, but at least the jeans have been saved from the compost bin for a while longer. Besides, as with jelly making, no doubt my visible mending technique will improve, too.

    I make lots of jellies and yes, practice is the thing. Ditto with mending. I hope you have a wonderful 2022 with lots of outings, adventures and learning.

    I love red currant jelly but the blackbirds get the red currants before I do!

  3. Well done. I can’t be bothered with the faff of jelly making but redcurrant relish has worked well
    Not this year though as the pigeons got to the berries before I did!
